The office of Education Malaysia in Washington DC confirms that all 296 Malaysian students in Ohio State University (OSU) in the US are safe following the attack on campus yesterday.

Various reports across mainstream and independent media outlets in the US have reported that a Somali citizen who is a resident in the US and a student at OSU carried out an attack on campus by crashing his car onto a sidewalk before stepping out of the vehicle to attack others with a weapon.

A police officer at the scene responded and fatally shot the assailant. The attack resulted in injuring at least nine people, one in critical condition.

It is worth noting that OSU is a gun-free zone and only police force is capable of carrying a weapon. If the assailant had a gun in his position, the situation would have been completely different.

The united states is the third most popular study destination among Malaysians after the UK and Australia. There are more than 6,000 students from Malaysia in various universities across the country.
