In the next four years, some 49 new programmes will be introduced in polytechnics nationwide. Polytechnics are higher education teaching institutions in Malaysia that offer technical and vocational education and training.
The roll out of new programmes will come in stages and will be available in diploma and degree levels. Furthermore it will cover various fields. Through this development, the number of skilled workers is expected to reach 680,000 by 2020.
According to Polytechnic Education Department Director-General Datuk Mohlis Jaafar, seven out of the 49 new programmes will be implemented at three premier polytechnics, namely Ungku Omar Polytechnic, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Polytechnic and Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic.
