The Malaysian government has agreed to channel RM500 million in stages for the setting up of the RM1 billion Majilis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) education fund, according to Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. The remaining RM500 million shall be provided by MARA.
In September 2013, the Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the RM1 Billion MARA education fund to finance training programmes for youths. The fund will be used for skills upgrading programmes for youths with low academic and skills qualifications, giving them a second chance to secure better work opportunities.
The distribution of the fund would take three years to be completed. In the first year, RM200 million will be distributed, followed by RM150 million in the second and third year.
