  • Independent Chinese school students with the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) can now further their studies in selected China and Taiwan universities without worrying the lack of local recognition.
  • Most private institutions in Malaysia recognises UEC certificate holders and allows them to enroll into their courses. However, UEC was not recognised by the government yet until PTPTN acknowledged them in 2010, allowing them to apply for loans to enter local private institutions as long as the courses are accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
  • Today, under the "Framework Agreement to Facilitate Mutual Recognition to Academic Higher Education Qualifications" signed between the Malaysian government and the People's Republic of China on April 28, 2011, 820 universities in China are now recognised by the Malaysian government.
  • Besides that, the MQA is now finalising details with Taiwan counterparts to recognise their higher education institutions.
  • This means UEC certificate holders will have a wider range of courses and institutions to enroll into.
