Malaysia needs 60,000 financial talents, including accountants by 2020.
To help support training in accountancy, an accounting training excellence centre has been established through a collaboration between Sunway TES, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, TalentCorp Malaysia and five accounting firms --- BDO Malaysia, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PwC.
The ICAEW Regional Centre of Accountancy Training Excellence aims to establish Malaysia as an education hub for ASEAN and provide the needed skilled talent to affect Malaysia's Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) as well as in the region.
According to Sunway TES Director Lee Weng Keng, the programme would enable students from all over the region to be qualified as chartered accountants, offer career opportunities and increase the skills and talent pool in the country.
He was quoted by StarBiz that Talentcorp would help facilitate employment pass for international students to be able to work here.
This year, the centre expects to receive 30 international students to participate in the programme and additional 70 by next year.
