Natural Resources and Environment's Minister Datuk Seri G. Palanivel invited the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) to set up a branch in Malaysia.

IIT is a recognised leader in the field of engineering education and research. It receives comparatively higher grants than other engineering colleges in India.

In Palanivel's speech, he mentioned that several students from Malaysia come to India to get degrees in dentistry, engineering and medicine and some of the Indian educational institutions have already set up centres here.

Palanivel, who is also president of Malaysian Indian Congress, said Malaysia would like to work closely with India in the area of biodiversity. Malaysia has learnt from India's experiences on the implementation of the National Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
