The number of international students furthering their studies in Malaysia is expected to reach 60,000 by 2020. These international students are expected to come from the Middle East, South Asia, and North Africa.
Currently, there are about 30,000 students from these regions, according to Shushilil Azam Shuib, Education Malaysia regional director for the Middle East, South Asia, and North Africa. He added that higher learning institutions in Malaysia were also actively promoting the intake of students from the Arab regions, with the latest being Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). UniMAP recently set up a gallery at the EM office for a two-month period and has since attracted many foreign students.
Costs in Malaysia for one year were given at around $13,000, according to a recent research report by banking giant HSBC.
