Those interested to get into food technology and allied healthcare could get their attention towards Johor as the state positions itself to become the leader in healthcare and chocolate making.

KPJ Healthcare Bhd, a private healthcare network, has been drafting the plans to make Iskandar home to ten private hospitals, four of which are owned by KPJ Healthcare. With the presence of these hospitals, KPJ Healthcare expects to receive patients from outside the state and from overseas.

Likewise, the state's cocoa industry is expecting to play a bigger role in the chocolate-making industry, said Mentri Besar DAtuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin during the opening of Guan Chong Bhd's RM55 million industrial chocolate facility at the port of Tanjung Pelepas industrial zone.

Eight-five per cent  (85%)  of the nation's cocoa grinding capacity (300,000 tonnes/year) happens in Johor.

Khaled also mentioned that Hershey's RM816 million investment in Senai has helped jumpstart the state's chocolate hub status. Hershey's investment is the single-largest investment in Asia to date and its Johor plant will be the distribution centre for the Asian region.
