Job prospect

During your stay

Although it's illegal to work on a student visa, an international student can work up to 20 hours per week with a work permit. Job opportunities are available on campus and through general employment agencies.

Most students coming to Russia get their first start in the market teaching English, translating, and/or editing documents. Another option are nanny/tutor positions, which are often arranged for wealthy families in Russia.

After graduation

Many Russians do not speak English yet enjoy world-class education. which is why Malaysians with a Russian degree can be found globally in many sectors including travel, tourism, transport, distribution, importing and exporting services, finance, banking, marketing, sales, public relations and advertising. They also find roles in educational institutions at all levels, media, publishing and entertainment companies, library and information services, and museums.

Russian graduates are often employed by local and central government, professional and research based organisations, as well as agencies dealing with trade and diplomacy, recruitment, social services. Many Russian graduates become teachers, lawyers, accountants, engineers, business managers, and administrators.

Applying for a visa

Beware of companies offering visas online. The only visas you can officially get online are the tourist and business visas.

Russian visas are only issued with a letter of invitation from your host – in this case your future university. It may take up to 75 days for you to receive this letter of invitation – so start well ahead of time with your application.
