IIUM debaters emerge champions!

The IIUM (International Islamic University) debate team has made both the university and Malaysia proud. How? They have done so by winning the Asian British Parliamentary Debating Championship that took place from Oct 7 to 13 at Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, Jakarta, Indonesia.

IIUM said in a statement yesterday that 80 teams from universities all over Asia participated in the competition.

“IIUM was represented by Mubarrat Wassey, an economics student, and Ameera Natasha Moore, a law student. Mubarrat and Ameera won the first and second overall best speaker awards respectively while the second debate team comprising Ahmad Syarifuddin Ahmad Fakhri and Sara Abdul Rahim, received the top ten speakers award,” it said.

IIUM emerged as victors against a four-cornered fight with three other institutions from Singapore: the Singapore Management University (SMU), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Yale-NUS College (YNC).
