Hassan Said replaces Sahol Hamid as UiTM new vice-chancellor

Ministry of Higher Education announced Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Hassan Said as Universiti Teknologi Mara's (UiTM) new vice-chancellor effective 1st February 2016.

Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Hassan Said will be taking over the leadership of UiTM from Tan Sri Prof Ir Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar who has been serving as UiTM's vice-chancellor since January 1st, 2010. His (Sahol Hamid) term as UiTM's vice-chancellor ends on December 31, 2015.

Hassan, 60, holds a Bachelor's Degree in mathematics from the University of Manchester (1979), Masters of Science from Brunel University, United Kingdom (1981) and a Doctorate Degree from Brunel University (1984), specialising in Computer-Aided Geometric Design.

He was the vice-chancellor and president of Taylor's University preceding his appointment. He was also the former director-general of Higher Education from January 2005 to April 2008.

According to the ministry, Hassan played a significant role in in the establishment of the National Higher Education Research Institute (IPPTN). His charisma as a leader and academic achievements are believed to bring the university to a higher level.
