The Malaysian government is willing to investigate the case of Malaysian medical students under the AUCMS-USU (University of Sumatera Utara) twinning programme who are facing arrears.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the government was aware of cases faced by the students involved but have no official information about it yet.
Muhyiddin who is also Education Minister, said, if they were to receiv any complaint later, the case will be investigated to ensure that students do not become victims.
A total of 393 Malaysian students are pursuing the medical degree under the AUCMS-USU twinning programme introduced since 2002 and the private medical college in Penang has allegedly not paid fees to USU eventhough they had received money from the students' sponsors.
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has stepped in and completed the payment of arrears for the 115 sponsored students involved.
According to USU, the total amount of the AUCMS student fees arrears is of RM7,620,025 which include from students sponsored by MARA and other parties.
USU also reported to have stopped the intake of students from AUCMS and the college had previously promised to clarify the outstanding balance of RM3 million.
