With its target to add more vocational students, the Education Ministry is set to establish more vocational facilities this year. Last year, 126,000 students applied for places in vocational institutions however only 20,000 places were available. In 2012, 117,000 applications were received.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, this move will help address the lack of skilled manpower in various industries based in the country.
The Education Ministry targets having 90,000 students obtaining the Malaysia Vocational Diploma (MVD) qualification at vocational colleges nationwide by 2020.
