Today, education has broadened its horizons and extended its reach and coverage since ancient times. With technology literally vanquishing the field of education, learning is no longer confined to the walls of the classrooms. On the other hand, outdoor learning is one of the biggest parts of education. It is a broad term that includes college projects, environmental education, team building, leadership training, and plenty more that is about problem-solving. By having to solve problems, students are able to practice learning rather than memorizing.
The current education system has provided the right atmosphere for students to develop their soft skills and empowers them to be critical thinkers, lifelong learners, change agents and world leaders. Atmospheres / Platforms such as co-curricular activities allows and encourages students to learn by trying out a new sport or joining campaigns and events, and this can result in the discovery of a new skill or talent that will facilitate the development of various domains of mind and personality such as intellectual development, emotional development, social development, moral development and aesthetic development.
The Care Ambassador: Committees becomes the care ambassadors of TAR-U-Care “It’s All Care” campaign by spreading the awareness in upholding the proper actions and good attitudes in campus and the society.
As quoted by the legendary Nelson Mandela in one of his famous speeches, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” With that said, students’ activities give a platform for youth to showcase their innovative ideas. Through organizing campaigns, students are able to use their utmost creativity in highlighting the issues that they wish to address to the public. As a matter of fact, it encourages students to rack their brains and brainstorm to provide solutions for any existing substantial problem while working with the public engagement process.
As brainstorming involves the values of teamwork, it incorporates students to become more efficient and productive hence it allows the workload to be shared, reducing the pressure on individuals, and ensure tasks are completed within a set time frame. Moreover, public advocacy is also one of the ways for students to develop morally and provide opportunities to grow righteously. As the youth community may somehow involve in some of the on-going societal issues, campaigns allow students to realize their mistakes and increase their level of concern towards the community.
Friday Dress Down Day: Lectures and students dress down together on Fridays to advocate and foster discipline among TAR UC students.
Students are made to target their own community’s problems, and it encourages their peers to be the problem solver and not the trouble maker. In the current era, students are involved in many communal problems despite knowing the consequences of their actions. Via proper education regarding the communal problems, students will be able to analyse and correlate the impact of their current decisions-actions-and their future. This informs them whether to undertake or forgo an action that will have repercussions in the future, including actions of a criminal nature. In regards to this matter, Electricity, Water, Dress code, Vandalism and Parking manner are the common issues faced by the community. It is important for students to care on all issues before it elevates to become a serious communal crisis in the future.
In order to take the first steps to reduce all these issues, Year 3 Students of Bachelor in Public Relations have taken the initiative in organizing a campaign named TAR-U-Care “It’s All Care” to influence youth to take their first steps to make the change. Thus, this campaign is to spread awareness to students that they play an important role and have the responsibility to solve all the issues.
It’s All Care: The icons in the logo represents the idea of the campaign which aims to educate the students on the correct methods in dealing with the issues of electricity and water wastage, inappropriate dress code, parking, and vandalism.
Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) had recently celebrated its 50th year anniversary in March. TAR UC believes that education is not only about pursuing knowledge and information but it is also towards the development of an individual’s values, moral and ethical. Therefore, it is important for students of TAR UC to uphold the right mentality towards issues taking place on campus that might reflect back in the society. The attitude of students plays a crucial role in protecting as well as preserving TAR UC for the betterment of the future.
