Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has suggested that psychometric tests be introduced as a criteria to recruit new teachers.
The Education Minister said the proposed criteria was to ensure teachers not only have excellent results but also a healthy and positive spiritual aspect.
“I wish to urge the Education Service Commission (SPP) to have a personality assessment through the psychometric test for all graduates as an initial screening in their appointment process,” he said during the launch of the 2015 Education Service Conference in Miri.
Muhyiddin said previously entry into the teaching degree programme (PISMP) was stringent as the candidate must obtain five outstanding results in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination to be eligible to take the teacher qualification test (UKCG) and seven to join the Program Pelajar Cemerlang (PPC).
He said with the proposed criteria, PISMP and PPC candidates would graduate with high discipline in the physical and spiritual aspects.
