With more fresh graduates than jobs available, gaining a degree alone won't be enough to get you a job.

add-value

According to Dayang Enterprise Holdings Sdn Bhd (DEHSB) executive deputy chairman Datuk James Ling, while it was vital for students to have education, they must also demonstrate their capability and develop themselves in order to become valuable assets of any organisations that they joined after finishing their studies.

“You must have a good working attitude and be able to work as a team. At the same time, you must also understand the vision and mission (of the company) and believe in what it is striving to achieve,” he was quoted saying at a IBS College Prom Night held recently.

Ling added that it was a wrong perception by graduates thinking that the salary and benefits must be lucrative to justify their academic qualifications.

Malaysia's unemployment rate in August 2014 declined marginally to 2.7% from 2.8% in the previous month, the Statistics Department said. In a statement on the "Labour Force Statistics Malaysia" today, it said the year-on-year comparison showed a lower unemployment rate of 0.4% point at 3.1% in August 2013.
