If you’re a student, you’ve definitely had a first-hand experience with how long and stressful online classes can be.

And with the current, and seemingly never ending, Movement Control Order (MCO), more students both in school and in university have had an increase in stress as a result of having to study and attend classes from home.
Since, online classes are continuing for the foreseeable future, it is important to learn about Zoom fatigue and how to cope with it.
Here are a few ways that you can fight that Zoom fatigue:
Prepare for the day
This can be really helpful to make sure that you are both physically and mentally ready for the day. This include making sure you’re eating properly and getting the right nutrients, preparing your notes and materials for class as well as getting a good night’s rest.
Mentally Decompress
Take some time every day, when you are not in class, to do other things that don’t involve staring at the screen for longer. This could be exercising or even meditating, which is not only relaxing but can help to reduce stress and anxiety.
Avoid Multitasking
While you may feel enticed to do other things during your Zoom classes, it is better not to as this constant switching back and forth between different online tasks can actually increase your Zoom fatigue. It’s better to focus on your class and absorb all the information that is taught.
Take some Breaks
This could just be as simple as standing up now and then, looking away from your screen, reading, or even walking around and stretching just to get your blood flowing.
Turn off Your Video
Zoom calls tend to be very tiring as they make us hyper-aware of how we look and it causes us to look at ourselves for long periods of time. If possible, turn off your video in some classes or hide your self-view. You could even try using speaker view so you only have to look at the speaker instead of making your brain focus on multiple faces at once.
Eat a Balanced Diet
Not only will it help your body operate effectively, but eating foods such as fruits and vegetables can give your body the nutrients it needs to fight fatigue.
Develop a Good Sleep Routine
This is very important as it will help your optimal health and help to reduce your overall fatigue. Developing a good and healthy sleep routine can also increase your productivity and concentration which will help you perform better in class.
Mental health issues in students are a very real issue, especially in today’s COVID-19 world and it is very important to take care of yourself both physically and mentally.
As the former Deputy of Women, Family, and Community Development Minister, Hannah Yeoh said, “Mental health problems are no longer an isolated case… We need to send out the same message: that if you are suffering problems, it is okay that you are stepping out and choosing to seek help.”
