6,791 Malaysian students in the US

• More and more Malaysian students study in the United States. This year, 6,791 students are in the country, up by 0.7 per cent from 6,743 last year. The graph below shows the number of students over a 5-year period.

Malaysia ranks 21st in terms of origin of foreign students in the US, according to the Open Doors Report on International Education Exchange 2013. China and Saudi Arabia have the highest number of students in the US.  Over 50,000 international students enrolled in US higher education institutions compared to 2011-2012.

The US embassy in Kuala Lumpur stated that the report showed that the number of international students at colleges and universities in the US increased by 7 per cent to 819,644 in the 2012-2013 academic year, while US students studying abroad rose by 3 per cent to more than 283,000.
