40,000 qualified English teachers for schools in Malaysia

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has set a target of 40,000 qualified English teachers for schools all over Malaysia with the objective of improving English among school children. This comes as part of the National Education Blueprint 2013 – 2015.

The Second Minister of Education,. Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh pointed out that 5,000 students have already taken the advance training programme provided by the British Council which aims to enable teachers to teach English in schools.

The Cambridge English Placement Test (CEPT) which is used to assets the candidates places a requirement of grade C1 or C2 in order to teach English in schools. Currently, there are some 9,000 teachers who will be taking the test in October 2014.
