PUTRAJAYA: According to Education director-general Datuk Dr Habibah Abdul Rahman, this year’s batch of Form Five and Form Six students will join the 2021 batch once schools resume in January to prepare for the national exams scheduled in February (SPM) and March (STPM) respectively.

Meanwhile, Form Two and Form Three students shall remain with home-based learning until March 7. This is to allow school administrators and teachers to schedule teaching face-to-face for two batches of Form Five students. This flexibility will also “allow teachers to plan the use of the classrooms and other facilities (to teach both groups of exam-year students,” Habibah shared at yesterday’s press conference.

“Year One to Year Six pupils and Form One and Four Four students in the 2021 cohort will also return on Jan 20.”

Habibah also said teachers conducting home-based learning would not be teaching their students all the time or they could combine classes, thus freeing them to help teach the exam candidates next year.

Although schools are instructed to close till the end of the year, teaching and learning process should continue throughout the rest of this school year. “It is not a holiday for students and teachers,” Habibah reminded, adding that a guidebook was issued for teachers to conduct home-based learning.

With these decisions in mind, Habibah hopes that students will be more ready and more motivated to sit for their examinations which has been postponed to next year.

The decision to shut down all schools for the rest of the academic year was made following the increasing cases, with nearly 75% of the schools were in areas under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
