Beginning February, 20,000 Malaysian English language teachers will undergo training to brush up their language proficiency, said Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh. Last year, about 5,000 Malaysian English language teachers had extensive training.

This training programme abides with the government's Education Development Plan 2013-2025 to provide quality teacher training and improve English education in the country.

Earlier this month, 100 Fulbright English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) arrived in Malaysia to begin their 10-month assignment to teach English at primary and secondary schools in Terengganu, Johor, Pahang, Perak, Sabah and Sarawak. Moreover, they will help to train Malaysian English language teachers and advise on curriculum.

Previously, only 75 ETAs visited the country.
