All schools under the Ministry of Education (MOE) must conduct Covid-19 screenings utilizing only saliva test kits.
The Ministry of Education said in a statement today that nasal swab tests are not permitted and are not in conformity with the ministry's directives in a letter dated November 28.
The MOE said investigations discovered that the photo headed 'Teachers perform practical training by swabbing students in a school' that went viral on social media involved a Covid-19 screening in a school in Pahang.
According to the report, 16 students from the school were chosen at random to do the Covid-19 screening test utilizing saliva test kits.
"However, four students and four teachers were involved in a nasal swab demonstration, which was assisted by two community nurses," according to the statement.
The Covid-19 self-test for school children is being used in accordance with the Guidelines for School Management and Operation 3.0, according to the Ministry of Education.
According to the ministry's letter, the Covid-19 screening tests for primary school students must be done in a rotation, with at least 10% of students participating.
