COURSE OVERVIEW

The University of Malaya Medical Programme (UMMP) is a five-year professional undergraduate medical degree offering you clinical experience, research opportunities and elective placements. On successful completion of the programme, you will be conferred a Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS) degree.

The programme will provide you with current best practice in medical education, high teacher- student ratios and extensive educational support. The graduate of this MBBS Programme will be a medical practitioner who is responsive to the health needs of individuals, families and the society at large. The graduate will also be committed to improve the health care system at all levels.

The UMMP is centred on nurturing fresh insights through innovative educational approaches that foster interdisciplinary discovery. We also believe that by providing early and sustained clinical experience with essential communication skill give students confidence and the comfort level to excel in their duties during the clinical practice years and beyond.

To aid in the teaching and learning of our students, University Malaya has a large teaching hospital, University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). This teaching hospital has more than 1000 beds and more than 1 million patients annually, giving our students ample opportunities to practise the art of Medicine in a safe and supervised environment. UMMC is adjacent and physically connected to the Faculty of Medicine, creating a large complex dedicated to teaching, learning, research and health care.

STPM (Current Year)

Science Stream

Passed the STPM with at least CGPA 3.80; and
Obtained at least Grade A in two (2) subjects and Grade A- in one (1) subject at the STPM level with the combination of the following subjects:

Biology
Chemistry
Physics/Mathematics T/ Mathematics M; and

Obtained at least grade A- at the SPM Level in the following subjects:

Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
English

Obtained at least Band 4 in MUET; and
Obtained the test results of BMAT (UMalaya) according to the level set by the Faculty; and
Passed the interview; and
Verified healthy and meet other admission requirements:

Verified healthy from serious physical incompatibility and mental illness (exclusion may be given to candidates who have physical disabilities that can be corrected and/or does not prevent candidates from conducting clinical activities required by medical practitioners)

Other Requirements

Science Stream REQUIREMENT 1 Passed the GCE A-Level with at least grade A in three (3) of the following subjects:

Biology;
Chemistry;
Physics/Mathematics;

and Obtained at least grade A- at the SPM Level in the following subjects:

Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
English

and Obtained at least Band 4 in MUET or
Obtained at least Band 5.5 (Academic) in IELTS or
Obtained score of at least 513 (PBT)/ 183 (CBT)/ 65 (IBT) in TOEFL. and Obtained the test results of BMAT (UMalaya) according to the level set by the Faculty or any test for admissions approved by the Senate and Passed the interview and Verified healthy and meet other admission requirements:

Verified healthy from serious physical incompatibility and mental illness (exclusion may be given to candidates who have physical disabilities that can be corrected and/or does not prevent candidates from conducting clinical activities required by medical practitioners)

OR REQUIREMENT 2 Possess International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB)with at least 36 point score and obtained grade 6 (Higher Level) in two (2) subjects and grade 6 (Standard Level) in one (1) subject with the following combination of subjects:

Biology;
Chemistry;
Physics/Mathematics

and Obtained at least grade A- at the SPM Level in the following subjects:

Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
English

Verified healthy from serious physical incompatibility and mental illness (exclusion may be given to candidates who have physical disabilities that can be corrected and/or does not prevent candidates from conducting clinical activities required by medical practitioners)

OR REQUIREMENT 3 Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Applied Science from any institution recognized by the Senate with at least CGPA 3.70; and Obtained at least Grade B at the SPM level in five (5) subjects as follows:

Biology
Physics
Chemistry
Mathematics / Additional Mathematics
English

Matriculation/Foundation

Science Stream

Passed the Matriculation/ Foundation with at least CGPA 3.80;
Obtained at least Grade A in two (2) subjects and Grade A- in one (1) subject at the Matriculation/ Foundation level with the combination of the following subjects:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics/Mathematics; and
Obtained at least grade A- at the SPM Level in the following subjects:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
- English
Obtained at least Band 4 in MUET; and
Obtained the test results of BMAT (UMalaya) according to the level set by the Faculty; and
Passed the interview; and
Verified healthy and meet other admission requirements:
