The Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Chemistry programme adopts the multi-mode educational delivery system which emphasizes on student-centred learning, practical-based approach and experiential learning, as individuals or in teams, intended to realize UTP’s seven (7) attributes for well-rounded graduates model. The programme stresses the need for a strong foundation in Basic Chemistry followed by Material and Energy Balance, Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Separation Process, Instrumentation & Spectroscopy, Quantum Chemistry, and Surface Science & Catalysis. Students learning experience is also enhanced with the incorporation of the multidisciplinary Science Team Project and also the compulsory 7-month structured Industrial Internship Programme.
In addition to the above, towards the end of their studies, students have the opportunity to major in any of the three specialization areas:
Petrochemistry
Sustainable chemistry
Nanotechnology
Graduates from the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Chemistry programme will be able to enter into the scientific workforce in the industries, government, academia and R&D sectors. Career opportunities for our graduates are enormous from various industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic as well as other sectors such as government, academia and R&D sectors. These include exciting roles such as Analytical Chemists, Computational Chemists, Quality Control Chemists, Process Engineers, Research Scientists, Entrepreneurs and Academics.
Applicants wishing to enroll at UTP for undergraduate programmes must possess a minimum of 1 (one) of the following qualifications:
STPM Pass with at least Principal C (or 2.00) in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
A-Level or Equivalent
Pass with at least Grade C in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
Pass with minimum 24 Points including at least Point 4 in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Matriculation Pass Matriculation Program in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 3.00/4.00
