Petroleum Engineering involves in the exploration and production activities of petroleum at the upstream end of the energy sector. The curriculum in Petroleum Engineering is intended to prepare students for the petroleum industry and other fields which involve fluid flow through subsurface formations and particularly for those professions which have to do with drilling, production, reservoir engineering and transportation of oil, gas, and other subsurface resources.The programme stresses the development of strong fundamentals in mathematics, sciences and engineering followed by a thorough coverage of fundamental petroleum engineering courses such as Introduction to Petroleum Engineering, Petroleum Geoscience, Drilling Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, Well Test Analysis and others. Courses in geology provide an understanding of the geological structures and conditions favourable for petroleum deposits. Applicants wishing to enroll at UTP for undergraduate programmes must possess a minimum of 1 (one) of the following qualifications:
SPTM Pass with at least Principal C (or 2.00) in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
A-Level or Equivalent
Pass with at least Grade C in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
Pass with minimum 24 Points including at least Point 4 in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Matriculation
Pass Matriculation Program in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 3.00/4.00
Foundation in Relevant Field from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS
Pass Foundation Program in relevant field from UTP with at least a final CGPA of 2.00/4.00
Foundation in Relevant Field from a Recognized Institution
Pass Foundation Program in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 3.00/4.00;
Diploma in Relevant Field from a Recognized Institution
Pass a Diploma Program (Level 4, Malaysian Qualifications Framework-MQF) in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 3.00 / 4.00
Higher National Diploma (HND) from Other IPT Recognized by the Malaysian Government
Pass Higher National Diploma (HND) (Level 4, Malaysian Qualifications Framework-MQF) in relevant field with at least Merit Grade or 60%
Australian Matriculation Programme
Pass Australian Matriculation Program with at least Grade C (OR 60%) in Mathematics OR •Specialised Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry: •Year 12 Certificate, Australian Capital Territory •Higher School Certificate (HSC), New South Wales •Northern Territory Certificate Education (NTSE) •Queensland Senior Certificate •South Australian Certificate of Education •Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) •Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) •Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE)
