The BDS Programme combines several instructional approaches and philosophies such as student-centered learning, problem-based learning, patient-centered learning and competency-based learning. The amalgamation of these innovative methods with the traditional didactic approach has been formulated based on the strong body of evidence and it is also in tandem with the current implementation of dental education throughout the world. This is to ensure that the curriculum fulfill the current needs and takes into consideration the future demands in dentistry. The resultant is a five year programme consisting of courses to provide students with the knowledge and experience they need. They consist of basic and clinical sciences pertinent to dentisty. Vertical integration underpins the teaching of biomedical and oral sciences in the Year 1 and 2 and students are exposed to the clinical sciences as early as Year 1 right up to Year 5. Their student-centered education place emphasis on outcome-based learning and student’s progress is monitored using competency assessments which encompass all or most learning domains (cognitive, psychomotor and affective) incorporated within the courses in the programme. They form part of the formative assessment whilst the summative assessment includes written and oral examination conducted at the end of each course. Entry Requirements
1. Passed STPM with at least Grade B (GPA 3.0) in three (3) of these following subjects : i. Chemistry ii. Biology iii. Physic/Mathematics and Obtained CGPA of not less than 3.50 and Passed with credit in English and Mathematics/Additional Mathematics in SPM or equivalent examination. and MUET Band 3
2. Passed Matriculation (Ministry of Education)/Foundation in Sciences UiTM (Asasi Sains UiTM)/PASUM with at least Grade B (CGPA 3.0) in three (3) of these following subjects : i. Chemistry Ii. Biology iii. Physic/Mathematics and Obtained CGPA of not less than 3.50 and Passed with B in Chemistry, Biology, Physic, Mathematics /Additional Mathematics and one other subject in SPM or equivalent examination. and MUET Band 3
3. Passed Diploma in Sciences/Diploma in Microbiology/Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology/Diploma in Pharmacy from UiTM at least CGPA of 3.50 and Passed with B in Chemistry, Biology, Physic, Mathematics /Additional Mathematics and one other subject in SPM or equivalent examination. and MUET Band 3
