The Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Plant & Maintenance) programme is the sixth academic programme offered through the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The programme focuses on the area of plant and maintenance engineering studies. It aims to meet the needs for skilled workers in power generated industry (hydro electric power plant), heavy industry (petro-chemical plant), manufacturing industry, automotive industry and research & design fields.Plant engineering covers the design and technologies of plants facilities, operations and maintenance. It includes designing power-generated plants, oil refinery plants and manufacturing plants. Among topics covered in the plant engineering field are the construction of an air-conditioning system, air-handling system and building facilities such as elevators and a fire-fighting system. Laboratory works are conducted with a few pilot plants such as gas turbine generated power plants, water treatment plants and incineration plants.The scope of maintenance engineering is inclusive of maintenance management, strategies and methods of maintaining machineries and plants. The focus of this course will be on the study of condition-based maintenance and mechanical vibration. Among the methods that will be learned are vibration monitoring, wear and debris monitoring system and radiography.
