COURSE OVERVIEW

The Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Thermal-Fluids) is the first academic programme offered by FKM. It is a Mechanical Engineering programme which specialised in the area of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. The area of thermodynamics involves the study of Heat Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC), Heat Transfer, Energy Conversion, Energy Management, Building Maintenance and Internal Combustion Engines. The programme also includes the generation of renewable energy and alternatives energy sources study.

The study in fluid mechanics involved fluids in their statics and dynamics behaviour. Examples of these studies include characteristics of fluid flow in a piping system and dam, fluid system such as pump, compressor, turbine, rotor dynamics machine and power generation system. The students are taught advanced topics such as Hydraulic and Pneumatic System, Turbo Machinery and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Thermal and fluid flow simulations are also studied in this course. The simulation exercises will support conclusion derived from the analytical and experimental thermal and fluid problems.
