Department of Music and Music Education is the comprehensive music school of the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris – from the classroom to the concert hall, and from faculty-led groups to those run exclusively by students.There are several levels of degree that students can take within the music department: Graduate students can earn a PhD and Master Degree in one of the two mains areas of our Graduate Program-Ethnomusicology and Music Education-and within those rubrics is the opportunity to focus on theory or ethnomusicology. Undergraduate students can major in music with an emphasis on Music Education, Music Business, Music Performance and Music Directing. Music Performance, Music Composition and Music Technology degrees are currently being developed, and will be offered soon.Students are able to join with our various ensembles such as our Symphony Orchestra, Big Band, String Ensembles, Choir, Wind Ensembles, and the Traditional Malay Ensembles (Keroncong, Asli, Ghazal, Gambus, and Wayang Kulit). To augment practical training, students are encouraged to experience these diverse performing and stage activities as part of the coursework. Passed the Malaysian School Certificate (SPM or equivalent) with a credit in Malay / Bahasa Malaysia or credit in Malay / Bahasa Malaysia July Paper;
Passed the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (or equivalent) with at least a CGPA of 2.00 and obtained at least :
a Grade C (NGMP 2.00) for the General Studies paper;
a Grade C (NGMP 2.00) for two (2) other subject; or
Passed the Malaysian Ministry of Education Matriculation Examinations / University of Malaya Asasi Sains / UiTM Asasi with at least PNGK 2.00; or
obtained at least a Jayyid Grade in Malaysian Higher Islamic Religious Certificate Examination (STAM) or
obtained a Diploma in the area of specialization which is relevant to the course or programme applied for from the institute of learning recognized by the Malaysian Government and the University Senate and obtained at least a CGPA of 2.50;
Obtained at least Band 1 grade in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET).
