Network system and data communication engineers research, plan, design, develop, modify, evaluate and integrate information and communication system networks including mainframe systems, local and wide area networks, fiber-optic networks, wireless communication networks, intranets, the Internet and other data communications systems. Network system and data communication engineers work closely with computer programmers, systems analysts, electrical and electronics engineers and other scientists and engineers, and mobility is possible among these fields of specialization. The programme focuses on the fundamentals of data communication networks. One goal is to give some insight into the rationale of why networks are structured the way they are today and to understand the issues facing the designers of next-generation data networks. It covers the technology and strategy of communicating effectively across boundaries and improves your understanding of how engineering and business data are created, stored, transformed and delivered electronically.
