The Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics offered by the Dietetics Program is intended to prepare students for a professional career in dietetics. Graduates from this program will be able to work as dietitians in public and private hospitals or in the food industry and health promotion settings. Dietitians play a key role in the dietary modulation for diseases as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, liver diseases and gastrointestinal disorders, as well as manage conditions of obesity, malnutrition, and food allergy and intolerance. The UKM Dietetics Program is a 4-year full-time study program with strong emphasis on scientific disciplines that underpin basic and clinical nutrition sciences. The program incorporates communication, psychology and sociology skills into the clinical training to enhance students’ professional development. In the first two years of the program students will gain foundation knowledge required for understanding medical nutrition therapy. They will undergo practical experience in food chemistry analysis, quantity cookery skills, therapeutic diet laboratory as well as in producing patient education materials. In the 3rd year of the program, students will be placed in community health settings and catering sites to develop skills as dietitian professionals.
