The Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology provides students with an opportunity for education and training in all of the major disciplines of medical laboratory sciences. Medical Laboratory Technologists are tasked with performing diagnostic tests on blood, various body fluids and tissue specimens collected from patients to aid doctors and physicians in investigating the causes of disease and illness afflicting their patients. The program offered by UNISEL is thus designed with a clinical orientation to prepare graduates for employment, whether it be in the diagnostic laboratory, medical research, biotechnology, biological manufacturing or pharmaceutical industry.Medical Laboratory Technologists perform a variety of sophisticated diagnostic procedures. They must have good motor skills, hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. In addition to technical skills, they are required to possess a strong attention to detail to detect subtle changes in the microscopic appearance of blood, tissue and microscopic organisms. MLTs must also ensure the validity of the results they obtain, which requires analytical and critical thinking skill.
