The Accounting programme at Xiamen University (XMU) was introduced in 1924 and is currently ranked among the top in China, according to China’s Ministry of Education. XMU was one of the pioneer institutions officially authorised in 1987 to offer the programme, which was identified as a national key discipline. In the 2001 national key discipline assessment, the programme was ranked No. 1 in China, receiving a full score and being reaffirmed as a key provider of accounting education.

XMU was the first university in mainland China to offer a doctoral degree in accounting and has produced nearly one-third of all Ph.D. graduates in accounting in the country. The programme is supported by a distinguished faculty, with 94% of professors holding Ph.D. degrees and 80% having previous academic experience at world-renowned universities. Since 1982, the faculty has undertaken more than 30 key research projects and published over 1,500 academic journal articles.
