This course exposes students on strategic role of port in the context of throughtransport with respect to shipping – hub port, feeder / transhipment and also intermodal interface. In addition the course will also deal with various ownership structure of port organizations and port services i.e. public, municipal, private, landlord or fully privatized ports. Port can also offer the use of specialized terminals for handling specialized cargo. Students will also be exposed on the fundamental differences between various types of ships i.e. dry and liquid bulk, general-purpose ships, container ships, break-bulk, RORO, tankers and Ore carriers.
