For instance, FTMS College offers Foundation Course or Pre University Course of one year duration in Business Information Technology. The foundation or Pre University Courses are offered by both government funded institutions as well as private colleges. The students who are planning to give at least one year to their Pre Degree Courses should take up the Foundation Courses. On the other hand, a bridging course will be just a semester for you to complete. Some of the international universities offer direct entry based Foundation Programs that can give a direct entry to the students under the second year of the undergraduate or post graduate programs that they wish to enroll themselves into. </p></div>

<p>Chiropractic is a branch of healthcare that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the bones, joints and muscles of the body, especially involving the spine, and the effects of these conditions on the nervous system and health in general. Chiropractic practitioners (also referred to as chiropractors) commonly treat musculoskeletal symptoms, such as back and neck pain, headaches, pain in the arms or legs, and many other conditions. Chiropractic offers patients a hands-on approach to healthcare that is drug-free, including patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors utilise many common medical tests, such as clinical examination, x-rays, and blood tests, to determine the most appropriate care for each patient.</p>
<p>The primary objective of chiropractic evaluation is to locate disorders of the segments (vertebrae) of the spine, known as &ldquo;subluxations,&rdquo; in which the movement and/or position between adjoining vertebrae is restricted and/or misaligned. Chiropractors correct subluxations using &ldquo;chiropractic adjustments,&rdquo; sometimes referred to as &ldquo;spinal manipulations,&rdquo; by applying specific forces to the involved joints using the hands or an instrument. A chiropractic adjustment restores the abnormal movement and/ or position of the affected joint, which reduces the strain on the surrounding tissues. Thus, correcting subluxations alleviates pain and muscle tightness and permits healing. Chiropractors are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, stress management, and lifestyle counselling, but they do not prescribe drugs or perform surgery. Many chiropractors also use physical therapy modalities, such as massage, ultrasound, electric and heat therapy, as well as the application of structural supports like tapes and braces. When chiropractic care is not the best treatment option for a patient&rsquo;s condition, or co-management with another healthcare provider is warranted, chiropractors are trained to refer patients to other members of the healthcare team. Bachelor of Science (Hons) Pharmaceutical Chemistry

<p>The Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry Programme provides advanced training in implant dentistry designed for practitioners who wish to include implants into their clinical practice and to develop their skills to place implants in straight forward to advanced cases. The programme aims to develop the practitioner&rsquo;s knowledge and skill, so that he can operate with confidence in patient selection, diagnosis, investigations, treatment planning and execution of the planned implant procedure in straightforward to advance cases. The programme includes both onsite, offsite and online clinical training to enable practice to execute the clinical skills at the student&rsquo;s workplace or at IMU. Dental implantology is not considered a specialist discipline worldwide and thus no qualification in implant dentistry will be accepted for registration in the Specialist Register of the Malaysian Dental Council.</p>

<p>Nutrition is the science that deals with the study of foods and nutrients and their effect on an individual. Dietetics is the practical application of nutrition in the prevention and treatment of disease. <p>Chinese Medicine approaches health from a holistic manner in terms of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. The range of treatments include herbal therapy, acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, tuina, bone and spine manipulations, dietary therapy, exercise therapy like qigong and taijiguan.<br /><br />In Malaysia, traditional and complementary medicine is big business with herbal imports being 3 to 4 times the value of western medicine. Naturally, the Ministry of Health recognises the importance of Chinese Medicine and is implementing policies related to training and registration of practitioners with the aim of integrating Chinese Medicine into the national healthcare delivery system.</p>

These iconic words from Martin Luther King Jr. echo the aspirations of many, including <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/lim-zi-jie-9b7009229/">Lim Zi Jie</a>, who envisioned working in a hospital &mdash; donning the white robes of a dietitian, managing patients&rsquo; conditions, and guiding them toward healthier lifestyles.</p><p>That dream first took shape during a secondary school biology class, where Zi Jie discovered her fascination with how the human body transforms food into energy.</p><p>"At that time, I was wondering how our human body can be so powerful to help digest our food and use it as the source of energy," she says.</p><p>Fueled by this newfound passion, she began researching universities after graduating from secondary school. There, she learned the intricacies of food procurement and the entire kitchen operation, from sourcing ingredients to serving meals to patients. &ldquo;We had two assignments during that time &mdash; creating vegetarian menus for diabetic patients and working on a quality improvement project to enhance the food service.&rdquo;</p><p>Next, her community placement took her to Klinik Kesihatan in Seremban, where she provided outpatient counselling to patients. She and her group also gave a talk on diet control for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) to pregnant mothers, an experience that deepened her understanding of public health nutrition.</p><p>Her clinical placement was at Hospital Tuanku Ja&rsquo;afar in Seremban, a teaching hospital partnered with IMU. Here, Zi Jie managed patients with various acute and chronic conditions requiring dietetic-related services. &ldquo;All these experiences allowed us to learn how to be competent dietitians, providing the best care by using up-to-date information and recommendations.&rdquo;</p><p>This comprehensive practicum solidified her passion for dietetics, leaving her more determined than ever to pursue a career in the field.</p><p>Beyond technical skills, IMU&rsquo;s environment nurtured the development of vital interpersonal qualities that would prove crucial in her career. One such skill was time management. Zi Jie, as part of a pioneering team, helped launch Malaysia&rsquo;s first-ever student-led dietetic clinic at IMU during her final year. The experience was demanding, as it required balancing hospital work with late-night discussions about the clinic, but it was also gratifying. &ldquo;I always enjoyed learning outside of lecture classes, as it helped me strengthen my soft skills and broaden my social circle.&rdquo;</p><p>Another key skill Zi Jie developed was leadership. From studying English to embracing psychology, Vicki&rsquo;s journey reminds us of the power of persistence and self-discovery.</p><p><img class="fr-fic fr-dib fr-fil" style="width: 560px;" src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/postimages/5b8486f5d554d93456d593c9af730503d881bb25.jpeg" /></p><h2><strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><br />An Early Fascination with Psychology</strong></h2><p>Vicki&rsquo;s intrigue for the human mind sparked at a young age.</p><blockquote><p>&ldquo;I was always amazed by how the mind works,&rdquo; she says, recalling her childhood fascination with crime shows and their deep dives into human behaviour, understanding people and their motivations.</p></blockquote><p>However, societal perceptions and a lack of exposure to psychology as a career path made it difficult for her to pursue this passion. &ldquo;My parents weren&rsquo;t aware of how psychology could become a career.&rdquo; With her family encouraging her to pursue a more conventional education and career path, Vicki opted for a degree in English Language and Literature, a subject she was equally passionate about but had more certainty in. &ldquo;Language was the only thing I was sure of back then.&rdquo;</p><p>Vicki pursued her Bachelor's degree at the University of Nottingham (Malaysia campus). Yet, during her undergraduate years, Vicki&rsquo;s fascination with psychology stubbornly persisted. She even took electives in psychology and explored linguistics, which gave her insight into how the mind processes communication. However, she acknowledged that pursuing a second undergraduate degree wasn&rsquo;t feasible, thus turning to counselling as a way to re-enter the field. &ldquo;After graduating, I felt like I still had to get back to the psychology field. " width="600" height="300"></a></p><p style="text-align: left;">Students from various secondary schools and pre-university programmes around Malaysia took part in the IMU Science Discovery 2016 event recently, organised by <a href="http://www.imu.edu.my/imu/">International Medical University (IMU) i</a>n collaboration with the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM), Jabatan Kimia Malaysia, Malaysian Palm Oil Board, Pusat Sains Negara, Lembaga Getah Malaysia, Cancer Research Malaysia and Institute for Medical Research (IMR).</p><p data-empty="true"></p><p style="text-align: left;">With the focus being on &#39;Chemistry&#39;, the annual IMU Science Discovery Challenge provided students with an exciting opportunity to learn more about science and explore careers in health sciences, in an informal, engaging and stimulating manner. A total of 200 teams of three students each were challenged on their knowledge of Chemistry, in line with this year&rsquo;s theme, &lsquo;Chemistry Advancing Knowledge, Improving Lives&rsquo;.</p><p style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/54104/598a9ae9a5ba5.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-54119 size-full fr-fic fr-dii" src="https://img.afterschool.my/storage/uploads/images/getadvice/54104/598a9ae9a5ba5.jpg" alt="Mohd Firdhaus Bin Mohd Kamal, Form 5 student of SMK Tinggi Klang doing the dye separation in food and cosmetic experiment under the supervision of Dr. Cheong Kok Whye, Lecturer, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, School of Pharmacy, IMU." width="600" height="300"></a></p><p style="text-align: left;">Visitors eagerly explored the various activities organised throughout the day, including meeting with industry experts, watching a documentary screening, and participating in the many interactive workshops.&nbsp;Students also had the unique opportunity to &ldquo;get their hands dirty&rdquo; in activities such as making juice-filled caviar and creams, making home-made sanitiser, toothpaste and deodorant, as well as trying to separate dyes in food and cosmetics.</p><p data-empty="true"></p><p style="text-align: left;">One of the highlights of the event was the Poster Competition, which saw 58 participants put their understanding of chemistry and creative skills to the test.
