The Wells Mountain Foundation (WMF), through the Education Empowerment (ETE) program, offers undergraduate scholarships to citizens from developing countries who will or currently studying in their home country or other developing countries. This scholarship is applicable for all fields of study.

The scholarship awards are determined by the board of directors of the Wells Mountain Initiative and awarded once a year. Applications must be received by March 1 of each year to be considered for the following academic year. The selected WMI Scholarship recipients will be emailed on August 1. Their names will also be published on our website homepage and the WMI Facebook page. Those who do not receive a scholarship will also be notified after August.


Applicant must meet all the below requirements

A student, male or female, from a country in the developing world, who:

  • Successfully completed secondary education, with good to excellent grades
  • Is applying to university or is working towards earning his or her first undergraduate degree
  • Will be studying in his or her country or another country in the developing world
  • Plans to live and work in his or her own country after they graduate
  • Has participated in volunteer service prior to applying for this scholarship and is committed to continue to engage in community service during school and after
  • Has some funds available for his or her education, but will not be able to go to school or continue without assistance
  • Submits a complete, legible current application in English (please proof-read).
  • Because we receive so many applications, incomplete applications will not be considered
Preferred Discipline

All fields, although we tend to favour helping professions such as health care, social work, education, and social justice, as well as professions that help the economy and progress of the country, such as IT, engineering, agriculture and business.

Amount Info

WMI scholarships range from $300 USD to $3000 USD annually and are provided throughout the undergraduate education of the recipient. While our maximum scholarship is $3000 USD, we rarely award this high an amount. Our average scholarship amount is $1500 USD.

The scholarship may be used for:

  • Tuition and fees
  • Books and materials
  • Other related costs
