Overview

Tunku Abdul Rahman's vision of Malaysia was of a nation that is shaped and strengthened by the diversity of its people. He believed in building a Malaysian society that uplifts all, regardless of colour or creed. 

In honour of this vision, the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation was initially set up in 1966 to provide financial assistance to youths so that they could pursue higher education. 

Since 2019, the Foundation has expanded its work to further Tunku's legacy,  empowering and developing youths from underrepresented backgrounds to become leaders of themselves, their communities, and the nation. 

1. This Scholarship is open to:

  • Candidates who have already completed their pre-university course and shall enrol into an undergraduate degree programme by March 2027.
  • Candidates who have at least two years of their undergraduate studies remaining (completion date after September 2028)

2. Candidates who have just finished pre-university will be given a conditional offer, subject to them receiving an offer of study from an MQA-accredited local university.

3. Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman will prioritise candidates who:

  • Come from challenging backgrounds, such as candidates who are PWD (OKU), candidates from rural communities and candidates from families with an income of below RM5,250 a month.
  • Have overcome or are currently overcoming difficult life challenges.
  • Show leadership and strong character.

4. Before proceeding with your application, please prepare a digital copy of:

  • Identity Card.
  • Pre-university result AND result of the latest semester of Undergraduate Degree (if available).
  • University offer letter (if applicable).
  • Proof of income such as pay slip OR income tax slip OR pay slip of parents / guardian (3 months) OR bank statement.
  • Letter of recommendation from lecturer or employer (not compulsory but encouraged).

The Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship provides elaborate financial support in the following areas:

  • University Fees: Full sponsorship of tuition fees in any MQA-accredited public or private university in Malaysia. 
  • Monthly Allowance: A living allowance will be provided monthly throughout the scholarship.
  • Annual Allowance: Professional development allowance for Scholars’ self-improvement. Stationery and book allowances are also provided, as well as flight allowances (limited to flights between East and West Malaysia only).
  • One-off Allowance: To cover other essential expenses related to academic and professional needs, such as laptop purchases, thesis-related costs, and formal attire.

How to apply for Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship (BTAR) 2026

  • Submit the online scholarship application form before 8 April 2026, 2 p.m.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a virtual interview.
  • Selected candidates will receive a scholarship offer letter and embark on their scholarship journey.
