Overview

In order to support women who are in need of financial support, but wish to pursue their Masters degree in areas related to Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), the British Council has launched a scholarship programme in partnership with 19 UK universities aimed at benefiting women from the Americas, South Asia and South East Asia. This new scholarship will allow over 100 women from countries in the Americas, South Asia and East Asia to obtain their advanced degree from a leading university in the UK. 

Criteria

Applicant must meet all the below requirements

  • Citizens and residents of the eligible countries in the Americas, South Asia and East Asia 
  • Able to take up a full-time course of study in the UK for the academic year from Sept/Oct 2021 – 2022
  • Can demonstrate a need for financial support
  • Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain access onto one of the pre-selected postgraduate courses at a UK university
  • Can attain the level of English required for postgraduate study at a UK university now or upon completion of a pre-sessional English course
  • Active in the field with work experience or a proven interest in your subject area
  • Passionate about your course of study and are willing to engage as committed British Council scholarship alumni
Preferred Discipline

The participating universities and disciplines are as follows:


University of Glasgow

The scholarship covers the full costs associated with study at the University of Glasgow including:

  • Tuition fees
  • Monthly stipend of £1,116 to cover living and accommodation costs
  • Travel costs, equipment and study costs.


Liverpool John Moores University

The scholarships will cover full tuition fees, monthly stipends, return economy class air ticket and other study related costs such as IELTS, pre-sessional (if required) and standard visa application fees.


University of Stirling

The scholarship covers the full costs associated with study at the University of Stirling including:

  • tuition fees
  • up to 12 months monthly stipend at the rate of £1,116 p/month to cover costs of living, including accommodation
  • IELTS exam fee (for scholars without a valid Test of English)
  • up to 3-month Online pre-sessional English course if required
  • return economy-class travel from home country to UK (this will not reimburse costs of fares for dependants)
  • study-related costs, such as essential travel, materials, equipment, thesis printing etc.
  • visa and insurance / NHS surcharge costs
  • ad hoc costs (heavy baggage allowance, etc.)
  • If the scholar is a mother and widowed, divorced or a single parent, the bursary should also cover a child allowance of at least £465 per month for the first child, if they are accompanied by their child and are living at the same address in the UK.
