COURSE OVERVIEW

Master of Information Technology (MIT) is offered by the Department of Information Systems (DIS) at KICT.



The Master of Information Technology aims to develop a new breed of professional who not only can demonstrate mastery at an advanced level of IT Skills, but also competent in charting out strategic decisions as well as improving and upgrading organizational performances. It also aims to produce well-rounded intellectuals and professionals who are committed to the promotion of Islamic principles and disciplines and are innovative and creative to integrate new ideas with established contemporary knowledge.



Program Structure

Graduate in Master of Information Technology by coursework, mixed-mode and research shall graduate with 40 credit hours. 

  • Master of Information Technology (Coursework)


Students are required to complete 2 Kulliyyah required courses (8 credit hours); Islamic Worldview and Research Methodology. In addition to this, students are expected to complete 4 Department required courses (24 credit hours); IT Project and Change Management, IT Strategy and Governance, Methodologies for System Development and Computing Project. Lastly, students will have the choice of selecting 2 courses as electives (8 credit hours).



  • Master of Information Technology (Mixed mode)
Students are required to complete 2 Kulliyyah required courses (8 credit hours); Islamic Worldview and Research Methodology. In addition to this, students are expected to complete 2 Department required courses (12 credit hours); any 1 core course and IT Research Proposal. Lastly, students have to complete a Dissertation with 20 credit hours.

For MIT by Research and Coursework, the composition of the programme consists of 70% research and 30% coursework.



  • Master of Information Technology (Research)
In the first semester, students are required to audit 2 Kulliyyah required courses (8 credit hours); Islamic Worldview and Research Methodology. A student pursuing a programme that requires research work component must prepare a comprehensive research proposal that would provide the outline of the research, the research methodology and major references before entering the programme.

In the first semester, a student is required to audit 2 Kulliyyah required courses: ICT Research Methods and Islamic Worldview on ICT and Society. Within six (6) months from the registration date, the students are required to submit his/her research synopsis proposal which need to be defended. Students are also required to present their research progress at a formal Postgraduate Colloquium at different stages of research. Finally, the student shall defend his/her research in a viva voce and made revisions in accordance with the examiner’s reports.

  • Coursework: RM5,620
  • Coursework + Research: RM6,840
  • Research: RM5,520
