Malaysia has been attracting a lot of foreign universities to open their branch campuses here. We compiled a list of universities which have either already opened their Malaysia campuses for admission or are in the midst of completion and will be open for operations soon:
Open for Admission:
The Sarawak Campus is Curtin University Western Australia’s first offshore campus. Located in Miri, it started operations in February 1999. Curtin Sarawak was awarded the Multimedia Super Corridor Status in November 1999, which was renewed in 2006. Curtin University Sarawak offers Foundation, Diploma and Degrees in areas such as Commerce, Arts, Engineering & Science and Media, Culture & Communication.
Monash University set up its branch campus in Malaysia in 1998 after an invitation by Malaysia’s Ministry of Education to collaborate with Sunway University. Monash is known as the first foreign university to set up its campus in Malaysia. Monash University offers undergraduate degrees in the areas of arts and social sciences, business, engineering, information technology, medicine and health sciences, and science.
Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne opened its Malaysia branch in 2000 in Kuching, Sarawak, as a partnership between Swinburne Australia and the Sarawak Government. In 2009, the Malaysian Qualifications Agency’s Rating System for Higher Education (SETARA 2009) awarded the University with the rating Tier 5: Excellent. This is the highest rating achieved by any university and is one of only 18 universities to receive such a rating. Swinburn University of Technology offers Foundation, Diploma and Degree courses is disciplines such as Business/Commerce, Design, Engineering/Science and Information & Communication Technology.
Heriot-Watt is one of the top universities in the UK for business and industry. This early 2013, the university will open its branch campus in Putrajaya Holdings' prestigious headquarters in Menara PjH in the centre of Putrajaya. The university is the first Scottish university to open its branch in Malaysia. The Putrajaya campus will be built using a green concept and will be fully completed by 2014. The programmes offered at Herriot-Watt are Architectural Engineering, Robotics and Cybertronics, and Chemistry with Forensic Science, through to Languages and Intercultural Studies, Fashion Technology and Psychology (Applied).

Jaipur National University was established in October 2007. The university will be opening its branch campus in Perak. Jaipur National Unviversity offers undergraduate courses in the fields of Engineering & Technology, Languages, Literature & Society, Life & Basic Sciences, Media Studies, Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Computer & Systems Sciences, Nursing, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Business & Management.
Hanyang University was established in 1939 and has 339 sister institutions in 42 countries. The university will be setting up its Malaysia campus in Seremban by 2014. It plans to operate undergraduate courses in the fields of electronics, engineering science, business administration as well as international studies.
The University of Reading opened its doors in the late 19th century and is the only university to receive the Royal Charter between World War 1 and World War 2. It was recently announced that it plans to open its Malaysia branch campus in Iskandar Malaysia’s EduCity in Johor by 2014. Meanwhile, the university will operate temporarily at Menara Kotaraya starting May this year.
