The University of Southampton Malaysia joins the battle against a pandemic by providing a virtual start to students enrolling in April 2020.
While the world fights against a global health crisis and braces itself for future challenges, the University of Southampton Malaysia chooses to march onward with their April intake. Capitalising on its top-notch academics and digital resources, the University will commence with its Engineering Foundation Year intake on the 20th of April 2020.
Professor Rebecca Taylor
According to the CEO of the University of Southampton Malaysia, Professor Rebecca Taylor, “Our Engineering Foundation Year April intake will go ahead as planned [...] Thanks to our existing digital infrastructure and expertise we will be able to deliver the initial stage of your programme through a combination of virtual learning platforms and digital communications in a way that avoids disruption to your studies, and responds to a fast evolving situation.”
She also goes on to say,
“We are excited at the prospect of engaging with [new students] in new ways and have taken the opportunity to provide you with access to a number of support services earlier than would normally be the case […] This is an exciting step in defining your future as a successful engineer.”
In addition to providing the relevant virtual resources to new students who will be joining this April, the University is also offering up to 100% scholarships, study grants and more.
The Engineering Foundation Year is a one-year fast track integrated preparatory course that is custom-designed and delivered to prepare students for entry to the University’s undergraduate MEng degree programmes. The undergraduate MEng programmes offered are Aeronautics and Astronautics, Mechanical Engineering as well as Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The programmes are offered on a split-campus basis that allows for students to spend two years in Malaysia and two years in the United Kingdom. This option paves the way for higher savings on tuition fee as it is only 62% of the cost of completing the entire programme in the UK.
The University of Southampton Malaysia is a branch campus of the University of Southampton, UK. The University of Southampton is ranked 97th the QS World University Rankings 2020 and is a founding member of the UK’s renowned Russell Group. The University is currently based in EduCity Iskandar, an elite multi-varsity complex in Iskandar Puteri, Johor but will be expanding to a new campus in 2021 located within EcoWorld also in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.
The University is ranked 4th in the UK for Mechanical Engineering (The Complete University Guide, 2020), 6th in the UK for Aeronautics and Astronautics and 3rd in the UK for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, 2020). UoSM has also expanded its programme portfolio to include a BSc in Business Management and will soon have other additions.
