COURSE OVERVIEW

The course will allow you to learn the skills involved in design economics, procurement methods, cost planning and estimating, life cycle costing, measurement and quantification of construction work and contract management. After graduating, you can find yourself managing the finances and contracts of high-profile construction projects worldwide.

In year one you will learn from a broad range of topics to give you a feel for Surveying as a profession including introductions to Construction Costs and Measurement, Building Design and Technology, Property Value Studies and Property and Construction Law. You will then progress on to more specialist subjects including Construction Financial Management, Construction Project Management and Construction Contracts and further develop your skills in Cost Planning and Estimating, Measurement and Quantification of Construction and Engineering Works, Contractor's Estimating and Building Design and Technology. In your final year you will work on your honours project as well as gaining enhanced skills in areas of presenting and negotiating soft skills, Commercial Management and advanced Construction Project Management to prepare you for your role in the construction industry.

How You'll Be Taught
Classes are presented using a blend of face-to-face teaching and online resources through the University’s Virtual Learning Environment. The practical application of knowledge is the foundation for the QS course where we recreate real-life scenarios and learn how to deal with them in a classroom environment.


Assessments

No exams in year 1. Assignments comprise mainly scenario-based activities emphasizing the applied knowledge approach and employing an active learning ethos.

Entry Requirements

Students will be eligible to apply if they have gained the required scores in the International Baccalaureate, GCE A-Levels, Foundation, Diploma and Polytechnic Diploma for entry to year one and two.

English Language Requirements

Students applying to an undergraduate programme are required to have achieved Malaysian Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) English Language 1119 Grade C or above (grades 1-6), even if previous studies are fully taught and examined in English.
