Audiologists can help educate policy-makers and school administrators on the importance of early diagnosis and rehabilitation of individuals with hearing or speech-language difficulty.
A degree in Audiology is a combination of science, technology and healthcare. You’ll be exposed to the science behind why the eardrums do not receive the vibration it’s supposed to and learn how to treat it with advanced technology to ensure the patients receives the optimum care.
Not only the elderly have hearing and speech problems. You’ll meet different kinds of people, from infants to adults and senior citizens. In fact, children born with cleft palate and those with speech impairment caused by an accident or a stroke will need your service.
Can you imagine communicating with someone who has hearing and speech problems? I mean, is that even possible? (without sign language). Besides that fact that you’ll require an incredible amount of patience, you’ll also have to be good in your communication skills so you send the right messages across.

Because this field is an in-depth field and lots of research is required, a degree would not open up many doors of opportunity. It’s best to pursue the postgraduate level where more employers are willing to hire you.
Just as how hearing is such a vital part of life, you’ll need to listen to your patients and their family members as well as respond to them, explaining the diagnosis to both patient and their loved ones in a manner that is simple to understand.
You will deal with mostly people of age, and as such, you will need to be patient as they would take time explaining their issues particularly if their hearing problems have progressed to the latter stages.
The ear and its organs are remarkably small and delicate. As such, sometimes honing in on the problem would require an eye for detail so you don’t miss out on anything.
