A big congratulations are in order for Mohamed Aqil and Zad Chin Qi Qi – they’re the only two Malaysians accepted to the very prestigious Harvard College in Massachusetts, US.
Harvard Club Malaysia very recently released this statement to announce this amazing news. They congratulate the two Malaysians for beating over 48,000 applicants!
What’s more amazing is that these two students are products of the national education system. Aqil completed his secondary education at Sekolah Agama Menengah Tinggi Tengku Ampuan Jemaah in Shah Alam while Chin is an alumnus of SMJK Ave Maria Convent in Ipoh.
They are both also currently studying at Kolej Yayasan UEM in Lembah Beringin, pursuing their A-levels.

Aqil will focus on Mathematics and Philosophy. This avid bookworm is a talented and thoughtful writer, currently working on compiling, translating and writing an exegesis of the works of 16th century Malay poet Hamzah Fansuri, who is commonly known as the first known poet of the Malay world.
Chin, on the other hand, plans to major in Computer Science and Social Studies. She has a history of competing in robotics and technology competitions, a passion she credited to her father who works with heavy machinery.
An interview with Wan Nadiah, Group CEO of TMC Life Sciences and CEO of Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara described the two students as impressive, “with their intellectual curiosity, maturity, drive and desire to make an impact in society.”
Nick Khaw, who is the Director of Research at Khazanah Nasional Berhad, added, “We wish them heartiest congratulations and we hope that their journey at Harvard will be a valuable experience in shaping them to be the great people we know they can be and to be inspirations for other young Malaysians."
Aqil and Chin will start their undergraduate studies once Harvard reopens for the new academic year.
Congratulations once again to Aqil and Chin! Malaysia is extremely proud of your achievements and we look forward to hear more!
