COURSE OVERVIEW

The five-year BDS programme is a professional course to educate and train students to become dental practitioners. Dentistry is the second health science programme to be introduced at AIMST. The course uses a modern approach to dental education based on the best educational practices in dental schools in Malaysia and overseas. The BDS degree will conform to international standards. A highly professional faculty with a strong research base, and fully conversant with the needs of students to be a professional workforce, has been hand-picked to deliver the BDS programme.

A-Levels / STPM

Grades BBB, ABC or AAC in 3 subjects i.e. Biology and Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics. (Grade C can only be in either Physics or Mathematics.)

AIMST Foundation in Science/ Matriculation/Foundation in Science/Pre-medical course** (course ? 1 year in the same institution)

CGPA 3.0 (out of 4) in 3 subjects i.e. Biology and Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

UEC

B4 each in 5 subjects i.e. Biology and Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Additional Mathematics.

UNSW Foundation /MUFY/Western Australia Curriculum Council / HSC Sydney Australia / Trinity College Foundation Studies / Australian Universities Foundation Programmes / South Australian Matriculation / Victorian Certificate of Education, Australia Year 12

Aggregate or average of 80% or the equivalent of B in 3 subjects i.e. Biology and Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics OR 80% ATAR provided the subjects include Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 / New Zealand Bursary

Average of 80% in 3 subjects i.e. Biology and Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

CPU / CIMP / Canadian Grade 12/13 / Ontario Secondary School Diploma Grade 12

Average of 80% in 3 subjects i.e. Biology and Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

Indian Pre-University

Average of 70% in 3 subjects i.e. Biology and Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics

International Baccalaureate (IB)

30 points with a minimum of 2 science subjects or Mathematics at Higher Level (HL) and 1 science subject at Standard Level and attained a minimum score of 4 each in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

Diploma in Health Sciences (course ? 2 1/2 years or 5 semesters in the same institution)

CGPA ? 3.5 (out of 4)

Degree in Health or Pure or Applied Sciences

CGPA ? 3.0 (out of 4)

Degree in the Arts or Humanities

CGPA ? 3.5 (out of 4) and 3 Cs each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Science, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics at SPM or its equivalent OR an accredited bridging course.

SPM / O-Level

Applicants must have obtained 5Bs each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (or Additional Mathematics) and another subject. Must pass in Bahasa Malaysia and English. Applicant must NOT have failed in any other subjects listed in the results transcript.

English Language Requirement

All applicants should have attained the required level of competence in English. All applicants must have taken or registered for MUET upon applying for the programme.

Aptitude Test / Interview

All eligible applicants are required to attend an interview (to be conducted by AIMST University).

Additional Requirement from MDC

A person with any of the following shall be disqualified from entry into a dental programme: found guilty of offence(s) affecting the human body; recent or serious dishonesty e.g. cheating at examinations, falsification of documents, plagiarism; serious physical or mental illness; and/or serious communicable disease(s).
