A Diagnostic Radiographer is defined as a professional from the Allied Health Science Group trained in the use of X-rays and other sophisticated diagnostic imaging systems, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerised tomography (CT), mammography, radionuclide imaging, angiography and digital radiography for the purpose of producing diagnostic quality medical images to enable the Radiologist (a specialist doctor in Radiology) to diagnose diseases and abnormalities of the human body.The art and science of Diagnostic Radiography requires the acquisition of knowledge and skills in the following specific areas ; anatomy and physiology; medical ethics; medical terminology; pathology; patient management; behavioural science; accurate patient positioning; the principal of X-ray exposures; quality assurance of medical imaging instruments; general physics; radiation physics and radiation protection; radio-biology; pattern recognition of normal and abnormal medical images; and photochemistry.The Diagnostic Radiographer is an essential member of the healthcare community. Good teamwork with the other healthcare providers expedite medical treatment of patients, and thus fasten their recovery towards good health. The students will spend 3 years full time studying with clinical practice at several government and private hospitals. Mathematics,
one Science or Technical;
two other subjects; and
at least a pass in English; OR 2.) Posses a Certificate from IKM/ILP or other certificates recognized by the Senate in relevant fields with CGPA of 2.0 and above; and at least a pass in Bahasa Melayu at SPM level.
