Overview

The Penang State Education loan was established in 1970 and aims to provide loans to Malaysian students who are interested to pursue higher education. Loan covers the following courses: certificate, diploma, distance learning (diploma & degree), diploma, degree, masters and PhD. The interest rate is 1% (per year) for 5 years.

Application starts on 1st June to 30th August 2020!

Criteria

Applicant must meet all the below requirements

  • Applicant was born in Penang or have at least studied in a Penang-based school for 5 years. 
  • Offered a place at a public or private institution of higher education. Programme must be approved by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency 
  • Students currently pursuing pre-university or matriculation are not eligible to apply

Loan amount for full-time courses:

  • Bachelor of ScienceRM 6,000 a year
  • Bachelor of ArtsRM 5,000
  • Advanced Diploma in ScienceRM 5,000
  • Advanced Diploma of ArtsRM 4,000 a year
  • DiplomaRM 4,000 a year
  • CertificateRM 2,000 per year

Loan amount for distance learning courses:

  • Degree (Science)RM 5,000 for 5 years
  • Degree (Arts)RM 4,000 for 4 years
  • DiplomaRM 3,000 for 3 years

Loan amount for postgraduate studies: 

  • MasterRM 6,500 for 3 years
  • PHDRM 8,000 for 3 years

  • Application is online.
  • Please attach the documents that have been CERTIFIED TRUE as follows:

  1. Photocopy of identity card and birth certificate / Birth Certificate
  2. Copies of offer letter from the University / Institution
  3. Copies of School Leaving Certificate, and Letter Account (testimonial)
  4. Certificate of Education (SPM) / Certificate of Vocational Education (SPMV) and other equivalent certificates
  5. Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) and other equivalent certificates (if any)
  6. Specimen copy Polytechnic / Diploma / Degree etc. (If Available)
  7. Copies Results Matriculation / (If Available)
  8. Copies of Examination Results for Every Academic Year Term / Semester (If Available)
  9. Students of Private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) shall submit a copy of the approval letter issued colleges and courses MQA (Malaysian Qualification Agency / Malaysian Qualifications Agency). (Copy can be obtained from the concerned Institution)
