Biotechnology is an exciting phase of development in science where knowledge, creativity and innovation skills can be used to create products, processes and services of value to human society through biotechnology. The quantum leap forward in Biotechnology in modern times began with the discovery of the structure of DNA in 1953. Since then there has been an unprecedented impact by modern biotechnology on healthcare, agriculture, industry, management of the environment and almost every other aspect of life, to make it the most sought after growth technology of the 21st Century.
The four-year Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biotechnology will provide training in experimental and innovation skills through laboratory sessions, a six-month final year research project and another 6-month industrial training which should help students to acquire knowledge and experience to seal a job and build a strong career in the field of biotechnology. Abundant opportunities will also be provided to ensure students sharpen their prowess in transferable skills like communications and interpersonal skills. Finally, QIUP’s job-ready graduates for the biotech industry would be expected to have imbibed good team-spirit, work ethics and morals and a caring and sharing nature after their time spent at the campus.
