To avoid getting listed on the Central Credit Reference Information System (CCRIS) database, more and more loan defaulters have started repaying their debts. According to the National Higher Education Fund borrowers have almost tripled after the announcement to blacklist defaulters.
The total daily collection for PTPTN loan repayment has increased from RM1.2mil to RM3.5mil, according to PTPTN chairman Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
"After the announcement [to list borrowers on the CCRIS database] on October 5, there was a rise in daily collection. From an estimated collection of RM1.2 million a day the amount increased to RM2.5 million and the latest was RM3.5 million. We hope this trend will continue from time to time," he said.
