news - No special PTPTN exemption for OKU P

The government has no plans to loosen conditions on loan repayment exemption National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) for students with disabilities (OKU) if they obtain anything other than a first class bachelor's degree.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education Datuk Mary Yap Ching said PTPTN loan applications are open to all Malaysian citizens, including disabled persons, subject to certain conditions.

"However, this does not mean that the government ignores the welfare of students with disabilities, the ministry even created schemes such as Bantuan Kewangan Pelajar OKU in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from 2006," she said.

In addition, financial assistance is offered to students with disabilities in the form of allowances and tuition fees that follow a special education program (PPK) for the hearing and speech disability categories.
